What We Love About Greensboro, NC

Although Greensboro is a modern city in the “New South,” it holds close to its historical roots. The city was named for Major General Nathaniel Greene, commander of the American forces at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the Revolutionary War. A large park and visitor’s center mark the significance of that battle in our colonial past. Another nationally historic event took place in 1960 in downtown Greensboro at the Woolworth’s lunch counter, when four North Carolina A&T students staged a sit-in, an action that helped spawn the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S.

Today, Greensboro (nicknamed in the late 1800s as the “Gate City” for its being a transportation gateway to the west and south) is the third largest city in North Carolina with a population approaching 300,000. Home to a number of major companies like Honda Aircraft, Syngenta, VF Corporation, and Volvo Trucks, Greensboro is a city on the rise with new businesses – Boom Supersonic and a Toyota Battery plant – arriving in 2022. Colleges abound in the city: the University of North Carolina Greensboro, North Carolina A&T, Elon University School of Law, Guilford College, Bennett College, and Greensboro College. The bustling downtown is a diverse collection of small businesses, eclectic shops, and restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Greensboro as one of the top 100 places to live in the U.S. And we couldn’t agree more!
